The Sussex County Exotic Bird Club is dedicated to the Education of our members on the care of Companion Parrots and other types of Exotic Birds. This goal is accomplished through speakers at our monthly meetings and the sharing of information among our members. Our members range from the hobbyist with one bird to the breeder and the novice to the expert. We have members who have joined the club in an effort to learn all they could before acquiring their first bird. This is a very responsible way to get involved in aviculture. The club puts out an informative monthly newsletter which contains articles by our members as well as other aviculturists from around the world. We are active members in the American Federation of Aviculture, The World Parrot Trust, Bird Clubs of America, Rare and of course Bird Clubs of New Jersey. The public is welcome to attend a meeting as our guest prior to making the commitment of joining our organization. The club was founded in 1991 by Lisa A. Bocchiaro and Leslie Nelle. The reason for the formation of the club was due to the need for people with Exotic Birds to be able to meet and share their knowledge and experiences. Since the formation of the club we have grown to approximately 70 members from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Dover Moose Lodge, 21 Sammis Avenue, Dover, NJ. Social time is at 7:00. Meetings start at 7:30 Sharp. Business lasts about 20 minutes followed by our month's agenda. The evening closes with desserts and a raffle filled with all bird related items.
